Parish Information
St. Joseph's Parish Gunnedah
Gunnedah was part of the Diocese of Maitland when the first permanent priest Fr Denis English was appointed in 1875. During his tenure (1875-1882) the first church (now St Joseph’s Hall) was built and dedicated in 1876. The Convent of Mercy was constructed (1879) and the Sisters of Mercy established two Catholic schools.
The beautiful St Joseph’s Church with stained glass windows and war memorial Stations of the Cross became our place of worship in 1919 when Fr Daniel Keane was Parish Priest.
Fr Abmar is the Parish Priest in a vibrant and faith-filled community, with mass being held in St Joseph’s and Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Chapel (Gunnedah), St Therese’s Church (Mullaley) and Mary Immaculate Church (Tambar Springs).
